Singer songwriter Dörte Benzner left behind her urban life in Hamburg to create her new solo project Lys Lys (‘lys’, Danish for ‘light’). Several months later she brought back home the album Scandifornia, setting a musical monument for her soul sisters Scandinavia and California.
The first single Déjà Vu is a hot and cold flashing memory of these two territories that are raged by the oceans. A warm hybrid system of distorted thumping basslines that meet viscous beats and orchestral elements. Like a ship in the late summer night the song floats forward with trombones driven by the dashing beats. Lys Lys’ melancholic voice meets beaming vintage synthesizer melodies and self-sampled sound miniatures and goes to straight into your blood, heart or soul.
